Project Overview
Swipe & Dine is a mobile-friendly web application that enhances local restaurant discovery by allowing users to compare options directly through a swipe-based interface. Developed using insights from Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) research, this project combines a user-centric design with an engaging, intuitive swipe functionality to simplify the decision-making process in restaurant selection.
Objectives
The project aimed to make restaurant discovery both efficient and enjoyable by integrating the familiarity of swipe-based interactions with comprehensive restaurant information. Through this, users can quickly assess and choose dining options without the overwhelm of traditional review platforms.
Problem Statement
Many users experience decision fatigue when choosing a restaurant, as existing platforms often present extensive information without facilitating direct comparisons. Swipe & Dine addresses this by introducing a streamlined, swipeable comparison tool, making restaurant selection quick, intuitive, and engaging.
Solution
Swipe & Dine offers a unique, swipeable card-based interface inspired by popular social media interactions, which allows users to compare restaurants side-by-side effortlessly. This interactive design helps users navigate choices smoothly, adding a fun element to the restaurant discovery process.
Technical Stack
1. Design Tool: Figma for wireframing and prototyping, supporting iterative development.
2. Research Methods: Field studies, user interviews, and usability testing to gather insights.
3. Data Analysis Tools: Employed to evaluate user feedback and analyze prototype performance metrics.
Technical Details
The development of Swipe & Dine involved several core activities:
• Figma for Design: Low-fidelity wireframes and medium-fidelity prototypes were created to test and refine the design iteratively.
• HCI Research: Conducted field studies and user interviews to understand user needs and behaviors, informing a user-centric approach to the interface.
• Prototype Testing: Medium-fidelity prototypes were tested to gather data on user satisfaction, task completion rates, and error frequencies, guiding refinements to enhance usability.
Results and Impact
Swipe & Dine has shown potential in improving user engagement and satisfaction in restaurant discovery, offering an accessible, streamlined way for users to evaluate options. The innovative swipe-based interface aligns with user expectations of simplicity and interactivity, making it easier and faster to decide on dining choices while minimizing decision fatigue.
